No matter what your skills or special talents are it is likely that we have a place and a need for them at SMRS! Volunteer opportunities at SMRS include:
-Lesson Volunteers
These are the volunteers who work directly with the riders and the horses in class. They groom and tack a horse before a lesson, lead or sidewalk the horse during the lesson, cool down, untack and return the horse to its stall after the lesson. Training is provided for all lesson volunteers. The time commitment for a lesson volunteer is two hours per week for a ten-week session. Site Visits, where individuals interested in lesson volunteering can visit SMRS, meet staff, watch a lesson and learn more about our program and requirements are held regularly. Multiple training sessions for those interested in lesson volunteering are held typically throughout the month prior to sessions beginning. Lesson Volunteers are the backbone of our program. Without them our riders simply could not ride!
-Barn Team
For those volunteers who want to really get “up close and personal” with the horses, this is the perfect job. These volunteers provide special horse and stall care for their assigned horse each week. To become a Barn Buddy, a volunteer must already be volunteering as a lesson volunteer.
-Schooling Team
This is a volunteer opportunity for advanced level equestrians only. These volunteers work with the Trainer to school the therapy horses. Applicants to the Schooling Team must have a riding evaluation with the Trainer prior to being accepted. And they must have volunteered in at least one 10-week therapeutic riding session.
-Facility Management
From painting, to irrigating, to building fences, to cleaning and everything in between – we have endless volunteer opportunities for “handy” individuals or groups that want to work together on a project. These volunteers are essential to SMRS!
-Office Volunteers
These very important volunteers help with an array of tasks – including bulk mailings, photo copying, filing, word processing, computer/systems support and answering the phones. It is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for people who may not be keen about being around horses, or may need to limit their physical activity but still really want to lend a hand.
-Fundraising and Special Event Volunteers
SMRS always needs volunteers who are willing to help plan and implement fundraising and other special events. These are fun and rewarding opportunities to be creative and really bring a project to fruition.
***Please post under the employment agency if anyone would like to be a volunteer***
